Our 1972 Scout II

On June 7th, 1997 (coincidentally the anniversary of Heath’s proposal to Jennifer – on the beach… at sunset…) we ventured up the McKenzie River to a 50+ family garade sale, … and there it was. As we walked down the street we both saw it parked at the edge of a driveway. Jennifer was the first to say something, “It’s so cute! It’s perfect! Just what we’ve been looking for!” She wanted to ask about it, but Heath reassured her that, for $950, it must only be for “parts“. On the way back up the street, she couldn’t resist, ”Let’s go ask…“, ”No way“. But Heath finally decided that if she was willing to go ask, he’d wait around long enough to see what the guy said. He said it ran great, reached in and it started right up, and both of us were impressed. It was exceptionally clean and had fewer miles than our Ford Ranger! It had everything we were looking for: a backseat for guests and a place for the dogs! The guy said that lots of people had asked about it, but no one did anything about it. We gave him a $20 to hold it until monday. He accepted it, and by Monday afternoon it was a done deal. Easy as that. It was God.
